Hi,

Last week, I’m a meteorologist, so I’m used to making predictions, but this one was new. It was an achievable vision of a better world and the scale of change that’s needed in order to end the climate emergency.

More than that, it was a story about believing in yourself and your worth as a living being deserving of love and happiness.

At the end of that imagination exercise, I made a promise: “What that story looks like will probably be very different to what you’ve just read, but it will feel very much the same. It will feel like something you’ve always wanted, but never thought you’d get. You deserve it.”

As “If we do this right, bringing about a world that prioritises justice and ecology is going to feel a lot like falling in love. Reckless, emotional, raw. You’re going to want to cancel your plans."

Now, I know all of this probably feels a little uncomfortable. And it should. What you’re feeling is the vulnerability that is required to imagine what we’ve been told is unimaginable: a hopeful future, a world built on cooperation, and respecting the right of every living being to thrive. It takes a lot of emotional work to know you deserve a world like that, and knowing you deserve it is the first step necessary to putting every ounce of energy you have into working to make it a reality.

It’s taken me so long to really, really know that I deserve it. Maybe you’re already there. Maybe you’re not, and that’s OK too. But my belief is that if we keep repeating this simple truth – you deserve it – to each other, we’ll be doing the necessary work to put ourselves on the path to a better world.
