Hi,
This is going to be a short newsletter as I’ve just returned from a two-week vacation. I went on a trip with a campervan alongside the Dutch border. I stayed completely offline – even Google Maps was banned! For navigation we fully relied on a paper map. What a great way to get to know your surroundings! I recommend it to everyone.
I’m still catching up, but there’s one thing I wanted to share with you: the English translation of my book is out now. The Number Bias was published today by Sceptre. The Times already called it a "valuable book".
That "number bias" refers to the prejudice that numbers are objective. Whereas words can easily be criticised, numbers are often given astonishing free rein. In my book I write about that misconception, using the numbers that determine our lives – from IQ to GDP, from polls to medical research.
In addition to English, the book has been or will be published in 10 other languages, including German, Portuguese and Italian. It’s incredible to see these translations. I’m very grateful to the translators who have transformed my story into something so familiar yet foreign.
We’ll be publishing an excerpt of the book soon, so stay tuned!
